Paul Glenn Sparkman of
Hallie, Kentucky,
passed
away on March 17,
2005 at his residence, surrounded by
the love of his
family, friends and neighbors. Paul
was the son of
the late Joe Sparkman and Grace Hawk
Mitchell. On
August 17, 1955, he married Dewilla Watts Sparkman and
they had 4 children,
Sherry Lynn
(Arthur Whitt), Kyra Michelle (Charles “Feller” Frazier),
Glenna Deanna
(Greg Pridemore), and Paul Gregory (Tina)
Sparkman. There
are 8 grandchildren, Jason and Mary Campbell;
Molly and Rachel
Frazier; Allison and Justin Pridemore; and Chandler
and Corey
Sparkman. There is one step grandchild, Ameisha
Whitt, as well.
There are 3 great grandchildren, Asheton, Willa and
Peyton, as well
as 2 step grandchildren, Caleb and Canein.
Paul was a man
that believed in hard work and was always willing
to assist his
family, friends and neighbors. He worked his entire
career around the
coal mines and truly believed in being a loyal, hard
working employee.
Following his retirement, he really enjoyed gardening
and raising corn
and tomatoes, as well as, he and Greg raising
hogs in the fall.
Paul took pride in his garden and would spend hours
and hours every
day in his garden, as long as he was physically able.
On March 29, 1998, Paul was baptized and
became a member of
Cedar Grove Old
Regular Baptist Church and fully began to experience
joy in his life.
He would often say that the years after he became
a Christian were
the happiest years of his life.
He would attend church every Saturday and
Sunday as long as he
was able, and he
thoroughly enjoyed the friendships and support that
he obtained
through the church. Paul was very active in the church
until his illness
weakened him beyond attending church, and then he
would listen to
tapes of sermons of Old Regular Baptist Churches
that were brought
to him by some of the elders. Paul fought a long
and hard battle
with cancer, but he never let his illness dampen his
spirit and his
faith. Although the cancer eventually defeated Paul, he
will always be
remembered for his courageous fight and strength
during his battle
with this disease.
Besides his wife, children and grandchildren,
Paul is survived by
2 sisters, Lenna
and Marge, and 1 brother, Leonard. He was preceded
in death by 1
brother, Eddie; one brother, Wayman, died 2
months following
Paul’s death.
Although Paul is greatly missed by his family
and friends, there
is comfort to
know that he is singing Heavenly hymns and worshipping
our Lord in
Heaven. He is at peace, and forever living in our
hearts and
memories.
Written by the family of Paul Sparkman,
Dewilla, Sherry, Michelle, Glenna and Greg.
He
gave his life to Jesus
And
after that, he was never the
same
He’d
go to church on Sunday
Where
he’d sing and praise God’s
Holy name
He
spent later years making up for
lost time
Doing
good deeds galore
And
when his body wore out
Angels
came and carried his soul
to Heaven
To
live forever more.
